Copper(I) chloride is a whitish solid that does not dissolve in water. It is oxidized by air to copper(II) chloride and copper(II) oxide, which gives it a greenish color after a while. It is made by reduction of copper(II) chloride with a reducing agent such as ascorbic acid or tin(II) chloride.
Copper(I) chloride is used in organic chemistry. It is also used as a fungicide.
